5-Chloro-3-[4-(3-bromopropoxy)benzoyl]-2-phenylbenzofuran (2.0 g., 4.3 mmol.) is refluxed in 100 ml. of ethanol containing 9 ml. of diethylamine for ten hours. The reaction mixture is concentrated under reduced pressure and the residue is dissolved in ether. The ether solution is washed with aqueous sodium hydroxide and water then concentrated to give the title compound.
