Reaction Steps
Following the procedure of Example 1, 3 g. (0.0195 mol) of 4-amino-2-nitrophenol is added to a refluxing solution of 4.1 g. (0.0195 mol) of 3,5-diacetyl-4,6-dihydroxy-2H-pyran-2-one in methanol and the mixture is refluxed for about two hours. Filtration of the reaction mixture yields 5-acetyl-4-hydroxy-3-[1-(3-nitro-4-hydroxyphenylamino)ethylidene]-2H-pyran-2,6(3H)-dione, m.p. 236°-237° C. (dec.).
