To a solution of 4-(3-cyclopentyloxy-4-methoxyphenyl)-4-formylcyclohexan-1-one dimethyl ketal (0.24 g, 0.66 mmol) in 1,2-dimethyl-ethane (5 mL) under an argon atmosphere was added sodium borohydride (0.05 g, 1.3 mmol) and the mixture was stirred at room temperature for 0.75 h. Water was added, the mixture was partitioned between ether and water, was extracted twice with ether, the organic extract was dried (potassium carbonate) and evaporated to an oil (0.19 g, 79%).
