Reaction Steps

A solution of 1.40 g (3.77 mmol) of the product of Step D dissolved in 38 mL of methanol was placed in a Parr hydrogenation flask and 0.140 g of 10% Pd/C catalyst was added. The reaction mixture was placed in a Parr apparatus and rocked under a hydrogen atmosphere (32 psig) for 2 hours. The reaction mixture was then filtered through a plug of silica gel eluted with 20% methanol/chloroform to remove the catalyst. Evaporation of the filtrate and drying in vacuo afforded 0.650 g (61%) of the title compound.
