To a suspension of 12.9 g of fluorocytosine in 78 ml of pyridine was added 23.1 g of 3,4,5-trimethoxybenzoyl chloride, and the mixture was reacted at 100° C. for 5 hours. After the completion of reaction, the reaction mixture was poured into 300 ml of water at room temperature with stirring. After stirring the resulting mixture for additional 3 hours, the precipitated crystals were collected by filtration, washed with water and then dried to obtain 29.2 g of 5-fluoro-N4 -(3,4,5-trimethoxybenzoyl)cytosine.
