A solution of (2S)-2-aminopentan-1-ol (500 mg) in THF (6 mL) was cooled in a dry ice-acetone bath under nitrogen atmosphere, and a solution of 4-methoxyphenyl isocyanate (657 mg) in THF (4 mL) was added dropwise thereto. After the mixture was stirred for 17 hr while gradually warming to room temperature, methanol was added thereto, and the solvent was distilled off under reduced pressure to afford 1-[(2S)-1-hydroxypentan-2-yl]-3-(4-methoxyphenyl)urea (1.17 g).
