Procedure

2-(3-Acetyl-phenoxy)-8-cyclopentyl-1-propyl-1,7-dihydro-purin-6-one (0.05 g, 0.178 mmol) was taken in ethanol (2 ml). To this was added NaBH4 (0.02 mg, 0.525 mmol) at 0° C. and stirred at room temperature for 2 hours. The reaction mixture was quenched with saturated NH4Cl and solvent was concentrated under reduced pressure. Aqueous layer was extracted with ethyl acetate and organic layer was washed with brine, dried over Na2SO4 and concentrated under reduced pressure. The residue was purified by preparative HPLC using 1% methanol in dichloromethane as solvent system to give the product as off white solid (0.04 g) in 85% yield.
