To a solution of 2-methyl-5-(2-methyl-4-nitrophenoxy)benzo[d]oxazole (671 mg, 2.36 mmol) in ethanol (10 mL) was added 10% palladium on carbon (50 mg, 0.047 mmol). The reaction mixture was subjected to 40 psi of hydrogen for 2.5 hours. The mixture was filtered and the filtrate was concentrated under reduced pressure. The residue was chromatographed to provide the product (0.411 g, 69%) as yellow oil.
