Procedure

Following the same procedure as in Example 3 a), a mixture of 18.02 g (0.1 mole) of 4-propyl-1.2-dimethoxybenzene, 5.13 g (0.05 moles) of acetic anhydride and 0.7 g (5 mmoles) of anhydrous zinc chloride was reacted at 80-90° C. for 6 hrs. After washing, separation of the organic phase and evaporation u.v (20° C./21 mbar) a residue was obtained that after purification on silica gel column (eluant n-hexane: ethyl acetate 90/10 v/v) gives 8.0 g (0.037 moles) of 1-acetyl-6-propyl-3,4-dimethoxybenzene.
