A mixture of 1-(4-bromo-2,6-difluorophenyl)ethanone (prepared according to the method described in PCT Patent Publication WO 2004/72070; 4.56 g, 19.4 mmol) and N,N-dimethylacetamide dimethyl acetal (6.94 g, 58.2 mmol) in toluene (45 mL) was refluxed for 16 h. The reaction mixture was then concentrated under reduced pressure, and the residue was purified by medium pressure liquid chromatography on silica gel eluted with 0 to 100% ethyl acetate in hexanes to yield the title compound (4.78 g).
