To a solution of tert-butyl [2-(2-hydroxy-3-methylbutyl)-5-methoxyphenyl]-carbamate (100 mg) in dichloromethane (1.5 mL) was added Dess-Martin periodinane (164 mg), and the mixture was stirred at room temperature for 2 hours. The reaction mixture was filtrated through Celite (registered trademark), and the filtrate was concentrated under reduced pressure. The residue was purified by silica gel column chromatography (eluting solvent: ethyl acetate-hexane) to obtain the title compound (94 mg). 1H-NMR (CDCl3) δ ppm: 1.13 (6H, d, J=7.0 Hz), 1.52 (9H, s), 2.72-2.86 (1H, m), 3.66 (2H, s), 3.80 (3H, s), 6.59 (1H, dd, J=2.6, 8.5 Hz), 7.02 (1H, d, J=8.5 Hz), 7.47 (1H, br s), 7.60-7.90 (1H, br).
