Reaction Steps
To a stirred mixture of 2-fluoro-4-formyl-1-triphenylmethylimidazole (0.356 g.) and diethyl benzylphosphonate (0.228 g.) in 1,2-dimethoxyethane under an argon atmosphere at room temperature was added sodium hydride (0,048 g.). Stirring was continued for 18 hours and then water (15 ml.) was added. The precipitate was filtered and dried to give 2-fluoro-1-triphenylmethyl-4-(2-phenyl-trans-vinyl)imidazole (0.415 g.), m.p. 167°-170°.
