2-Fluoroimidazole hydrochloride was added to a suspension of powdered KOH in acetone, stirred for 10 minutes, and E-cinnamyl bromide added. After stirring 1 hour, the mixture was worked up by extraction and chromatography to give E-1-cinnamyl-2-fluoro-imidazole, having the following n.m.r. in CDCl3 : 4.6 (d, 2H); 6.1-6.4 (d of t, 1H); 6.6 (d, 1H); 6.6-6.8 (m, 2H); 7.2-7.5 (m, 5H).
