4-Chloro-2-(4-hydroxyphenylamino)benzoic acid [XI; R=4Cl, R"=H, OH at 4-position] was prepared by reaction of 4-chloro-2-(4-methoxyphenylamino)benzoic acid with boron tribromide according to the procedure of Example 3, part (b), and obtained as a gray solid, m.p. 164°-165° C.
