1-[2-(4-Hydroxyphenylamino)-5-methoxyphenyl]ethanone [XIV; R=5-CH3O, R"=H, OH at 4-position] was prepared by hydrogenation of 1-[2-(4-benzyloxyphenylamino)-5-methoxyphenyl]ethanone according to the procedure of Example 5, part (b), and obtained in the form of an orange powder, m.p. 118°-119° C. after chromatography on silica gel with chloroform eluant.
