A mixture of cis-1,3-dibenzyl-2-oxoimidazolidine-4,5-dicarboxylic acid (35.4 g), benzene (500 ml), n-butanol (45 ml) and conc. sulfuric acid (5.0 g) was refluxed for 16 hours, cooled, washed successively with water, 5% aqueous sodium hydroxide and water, and then concentrated under reduced pressure to give oily product of di-n-butyl cis-1,3-dibenzyl-2-oxoimidazolidine-4,5-dicarboxylate (39.5 g). IR (neat, cm-1): 2950, 1750, 1710, 1445, 1420, 1350, 1200, 1060, 1020, 960, 745, 695.
