Following Step B of Example 6 but substituting the title compound of Step A of this Example for 3-(4-(3-carbomethoxy-1-oxopropyl)phenylthio)cyclohexanone, the title compound was obtained as an oil. NMR (ppm) (CDCl3): 7.33 (2H, d, J=9 Hz, H meta to S), 7.17 (2H, d, J=9 Hz, H ortho to S), 4.00 (1H, m, carbinolic proton). 3.60 (3H, s, CH3O), 3.50 (2H, s, CH2), 1.90-1.30 (8H, m, cyclohexane protons).
