Reaction Steps

1.2 g of the compound obtained in Example 13b was dissolved in 10 ml of tBuOH, slowly added dropwise with 30 ml of a mixed solution of KMnO4; (1.92 g) and 50 ml of 0.1 N NaOH, and stirred for 1 hour. The reaction mixture was extracted three times with chloroform. The solvent was evaporated under reduced pressure and the obtained residue was purified by silica gel column chromatography (ethyl acetate) to obtain 0.45 g of the title compound (yield: 43%).
