Procedure
To a solution of 1.05 g of 1-(diethylphosphono)-22-(nonafluorobutyl)docosane in 10 mL of dichloromethane was added 0.61 g of bromotrimethylsilane. After 18 hr at room temperature, the solution was concentrated to a beige grease to which was added 30 mL of methanol. A white solid formed, and the resultant mixture was stirred at room temperature for 30 min. Removal of the solvent under reduced pressure left a white solid, which was slurried with an additional 20 mL of methanol for 30 min. Removal of solvent again left a white solid, and recrystallization of the crude product from methanol provided 0.61 g of 1-phosphono-22-(nonafluorobutyl)docosane (CF3(CF2)3(CH2)22PO3H2) as white crystals, m.p. 106-108° C.
