Reaction Steps
The above aziridine (9 g, 0.044 mol) is dissolved in 100 ml of acetone, sodium iodide (8 g, 0.053 mol) is added and the mixture is refluxed 1.5 hr and evaporated in vacuo. The residue is partitioned in 150 ml of methylene dichloride and 60 ml of 20% sodium carbonate solution. The organic layer is separated, dried (MgSO4) and evaporated in vacuo to give 8 g (89%) of 7,8-dihydro-1,3,8-trimethyl-1H-imidazo[1,2-c]pyrazolo[3,4-e]pyrimidine, mp 115°-117° C. from heptane.
