| Product | 2-(Chloromethyl)-2,3-dihydro-1,4-benzodioxin | HCID 95320 | — |
Reaction Steps
0.42 mole of 2-hydroxymethyl-1,4-benzodioxane, 0.42 mole of thionyl chloride and 600 ml of dry pyridine were heated at 100° C. for 3 hours. After the mixture had been cooled, ice-cold dilute hydrochloric acid was added and the mixture was extracted with ether. After drying, the solvent was removed and the residue was distilled in vacuo. Boiling point: 80° C. (0.9 mbar).
