A 3.5 g portion of 3-trifluoromethylphenyl 2,3,6-tri-O-acetyl-4-O-(2,3,4,6-tetra-O-acetyl-α-D-glucopyranosyl)-1-thio-β-D-glucopyranoside was reacted as described in Example 8. Rather than refrigerating overnight, this mixture was allowed to stand at room temperature for 20 hours, giving 2.5 g of the desired intermediate as a white solid, [α]D26 =+25°±2° (0.496%, methanol).
