32.5 g of PBr3 were added dropwise to a solution of 93 g of (II) in 300 ml of CHCl3 at 10° C. The CHCl3 solution was stirred for 15 hours at room temperature and then poured into ice/water. The organic phase was separated off and the aqueous phase was extracted with CHCl3. The combined organic phases were washed several times with aqueous Na2CO3 solution and with water, dried over Na2SO4 and concentrated. Distillation of the residue gave 110 g of (III) of boiling point 140°-148° C./0.1 mbar.
