Procedure
1-Ethoxycarbonylmethyl-3-(1-benzyloxycarbonyl-3-phenylpropylamino)-2,3,4,5-tetrahydro-1H-[1]-benzazepine-2-one (isomer B of Example 20, 1.1 g) in ethanol (150 ml) was hydrogenated at room temperature and atmospheric pressure using palladium on charcoal (0.5 g) as catalyst. After uptake of hydrogen had terminated, the catalyst was filtered off, and the solvent removed under reduced pressure to give a semi-solid. Trituration with ether (30 ml) yielded isomer B of the title compound, m.p. 175°-177° C.
