In a mixture of 20 volume parts of cyclopentanone and 100 volume parts of ethanol is dissolved 1 part of 2-amino-5,6-dihydroxy-3,4-dihydro-1(2H)-naphthalenone hydrobromide to produce 2-cyclopentylideneamino-5,6-dihydroxy-3,4-dihydro-1(2H)-naphthalenone. The resulting mixture is subjected to catalytic reduction with 0.1 part of platinum dioxide and 0.39 part of anhydrous sodium acetate at ordinary temperature and pressure.
