1 g of β-[4-(4-Trifluoromethylphenoxy)phenoxy]propanol and 0.25 g of pyridine were dissolved in 10 ml of benzene, and 0.45 g of benzoyl chloride was added slowly to the solution while cooling. After completion of the addition, the mixture was allowed to react at a temperature of 20° C for 1 hour, and the reaction mixture was poured into an appropriate amount of water. The benzene layer was separated and, after drying, benzene was removed to obtain 1 g of the desired product (nD20 1.541) as an oily substance.
