Procedure
To a solution of 4-[5-(5-Methyl-3-phenyl-isoxazol-4-yl)-[1,3,4]oxadiazol-2-yl]-benzoic acid methyl ester (1.95 g, 5.47 mmol) in methanol (10 mL) was added aqueous sodium hydroxide (1 M, 11 mL, 11 mmol) and the mixture was stirred for 3 h at 70° C. After concentration the residue was diluted with water (20 mL) and the resulting suspension was acidified with aqueous HCl (1 N) to pH=1. filtration and washing with water afforded the title compound (1.90 g, 99%) which was obtained as a white solid. MS: m/e=348.1 [M+H]+.
