Reaction Steps
To a solution of methyl 4-[(3′-formyl-[1,1′-biphenyl]-3-yl) methoxy]benzenepropanoate (0.48 g, 1.3 mmol) in tetrahydrofuran (5 mL) and water (2 mL) was added sulfamic acid (0.15 g, 1.3 mmol), and a solution of sodium chlorite (0.17 g, 1.5 mmol) in water (1.5 mL) was added. The mixture was stirred at room temperature for 15 hrs., and water was added. The mixture was extracted with ethyl acetate. The extract was washed with water and concentrated under reduced pressure to give the title compound 0.50 g (quantitative).
