400 mg of (1R,2R,3R,5R,6R)-2-amino-3-(3,4-dichlorobenzyloxy)-6-fluorobicyclo[3.1.0]hexane-2,6-dicarboxylic acid 6-ethyl ester hydrochloride was added to a mixture of 5 mL of ethanol and 5 mL of propyleneoxide, and the mixture was heated to redux for 2.5 hours. After standing to cool, the precipitated solids were filtured, and the solids were washed with diethyl ether and then recrystallized from water: ethanol, thereby yielding 230 g of (1R,2R,3R,5R,6R)-2-amino-3-(3,4-dichlorobenzyloxy)-6-fluorobicyclo[3.1.0]hexane-2,6-dicarboxylic acid 6-ethyl ester.
