To a room temperature solution of 3-(4-chloro-7-{2,2,2-trifluoro-1-[1-(4-fluorophenyl)-1H-indazol-5-yl]-1-hydroxyethyl}pyrrolo[3,2-d]pyrimidin-5-yl)propane-1,2-diol (95 mg, 0.18 mmol, 1 equiv.) in 3 mL of acetone and 1 mL of water was added NaIO4 (120 mg, 0.56 mmol, 4 equiv.). After 3 days, the mixture was filtered and the filtrate concentrated to near dryness. The residue was diluted with water and extracted with EtOAc. The combined organic layers were dried, filtered and concentrated in vacuo to afford (4-chloro-7-{2,2,2-trifluoro-1-[1-(4-fluorophenyl)-1H-indazol-5-yl]-1-hydroxyethyl}pyrrolo[3,2-d]pyrimidin-5-yl)acetaldehyde which was used without further purification.
