A solution of 4-(1,1,3,3-tetraoxidobenzo[d][1,3,2]dithiazol-2-yl)benzoic acid (0.39 g; 1.0 mmol) in dichloromethane (6 mL) was treated with oxalyl chloride (1 mL), a drop of DMF, and allowed to stir at ambient temperature for a period of 2 hours. The solvent was removed under reduced pressure to afford 4-(1,1,3,3-tetraoxidobenzo[d][1,3,2]dithiazol-2-yl)benzoyl chloride, 7, (0.3 g, quant.) which was used without further purification.
