900 mg (2.7 mmol) of (Z)-3-[1-(4-cyanophenylamino)-1-phenyl-methylidene]-2-indolinone are hydrogenated in 200 ml of methanolic ammonia for 7 hours over 1.4 g of Raney nickel at a hydrogen pressure of 3 bar. The catalyst is filtered off, the solution is concentrated by evaporation and the residue is divided between water/dichloromethane. The organic phase is dried, concentrated by evaporation, triturated with ether, suction filtered and dried.
