Procedure
A mixture of 4.368 g of 2-(5-methyl-2-thienyl)piperazine and 2.152 g of 7-chloro-1-ethyl-6-fluoro-1,4-dihydro-4-oxo-3-quinolinecarboxylic acid in 15 ml of pyridine was heated at reflux under argon for 18 hours, then allowed to cool and the solvent removed. The residue was triturated with methanol and ether, then filtered and dried, giving 580 mg of the desired product, mp 200°-210° C. (dec.)
