Procedure
A mixture of 299 mg of 1-ethyl-6 -fluoro-1,4-dihydro-4-oxo-7-[3-[1-(phenylsulfonyl)-1H-pyrrol-3-yl]-1-piperazinyl]-3-quinolinecarboxylic acid 3 ml of 1N sodium hydroxide and 10 ml of dioxane was heated at 100° C. for 4 hours, then allowed to cool and neutralized to pH 7 with 10% acetic acid. The solvents were evaporated until a solid formed. This solid was collected, washed with water, methanol and ether and dried, giving 180 mg of the desired product, mp 220° C.
