Procedure

A suspension of 2-butyl-4-(1H-pyrrol-1-yl)-1-[(2'-(1H-tetrazol-5-yl)biphen-4-yl)methyl]-1H-imidazole-5-carboxylic acid (Example 16, 50 mg) in toluene (10 mL) was heated at reflux for 1 hour. Evaporation gave a gummy solid that was redissolved in ether and evaporated again to give the title compound as a colorless powder. 1H-NMR (CDCl3) δ 7.9 (d, 1H), 7.6 (m, 2H), 7.4 (d, 2H), 7.1 (d, 2H), 6.9 (d, 2H), 6.8 (s, 2H), 6.5 (s, 1H), 6.1 (s, 2H), 5.0 (s, 2H), 2.4 (t, 2H), 1.6 (m, 2H), 1.3 (m, 2H), 0.9 (t, 3H).
