To a solution of methyl 2-cyclopropyl-4-(2,5 dimethyl-1H-pyrrol-1-yl)-1 [(2'-(1H-tetrazol-5-yl)biphen-4-yl)methyl]-1H-imidazole-5-carboxylate (Example 42, 1.91 g) in anhydrous THF was added potassium trimethylsilanolate (1.57 g) and the mixture stirred at ambient temperature for 20 hours. The solvent was removed under reduced pressure and the residue taken up in water (25 mL). The aqueous solution was filtered and extracted with ethyl acetate. The aqueous layer was acidified to pH 4.5 with 1N HCl and extracted with ethyl acetate. The combined organic extracts were dried over anhydrous magnesium sulfate and evaporated to give the title compound 2-cyclopropyl-4-(2,5-dimethyl-1H-pyrrol-1-yl)-1-[(2'-(1H-tetrazol-5-yl)biphen-4-yl)methyl]-1H-imidazole-5-carboxylic acid. MS (CI, CH4 +NH3) 480 (M+).
