Procedure
A mixture of methyl 4-(2,5-dimethyl-1H-pyrrol-1-yl)-2-propyl-1-[(2'-(1H-tetrazol-5-yl)biphen-4-yl)methyl]-1H-imidazole-5-carboxylate 9 (Example 70) in methanol (5 mL) containing 5 mL of 2.5N NaOH was heated under reflux for 3 hours. The reaction mixture was cooled, acidified with 10% citric acid to pH 4, and extracted with ethyl acetate. The combined organic layers were dried over anhydrous MgSO4 and the solvent removed under reduced pressure. The acid was further purified by flash chromatography on silica gel eluting with 5% methanol in ethyl acetate to furnish 0.2 g for the title compound 4-(2,5-dimethyl-1H-pyrrol-1-yl)-2-propyl-1-[(2'-(1H-tetrazol-5-yl)biphen-4-yl)methyl]-1H-imidazole-5-carboxylic acid. MS (FAB, thioglycerol) 482 (M+).
