3-[[2-Mercaptomethyl-3-(3-pyridyl)propionyl]-amino]benzoic acid (compound of Example 54) (0.2 g) is dissolved in ethanol (20 ml), and thereto is added 35% ethanolic hydrochloric acid (0.3 ml), and the mixture is stirred at room temperature for 5 minutes, and ethanol is distilled off under reduced pressure. To the residue is added diethyl ether (30 ml), and the mixture is cooled. The precipitated white powder is taken by filtration to give the title compound (0.15 g).
