Reaction Steps
E-(R)-1-[2-[[2-(2-Methylphenyl)-2-phenylethenyl]oxy]ethyl]-3-piperidine carboxylic acid ethyl ester (1.1 g, 0.0028 mol) (prepared as described in Method A) was dissolved in ethanol (5 ml) and 12N sodium hydroxide solution (0.7 ml) was introduced. After stirring the solution at room temperature for 2h, 37% hydrochloric acid solution (ca. 1.0 ml) was added (with cooling) followed by dichloromethane (300 ml) and the mixture was dried (Na2SO4). Filtration and evaporation of the filtrate gave a residue, which was co-evaporated with acetone. The solid product was triturated with ethyl acetate, collected by filtration and dried in vacuo to provide the title compound (0.70 g, 62%), m.p. 195-196.
