The 4-(3-(2,6-Dimethylbenzyloxy)phenyl)-4-oxobutyric acid (Step D, 6.0 g, 19.4 mmol) was dissolved in abs ethanol (20 ml) by warming gently followed by addition of KOH (1.21 g) at 0° C. temperature. The reaction mixture was stirred for one hour, concentrated in vaccuo and lyophilized to give the title compound as white solid.
