The title compound (130 mg, 12%) is prepared essentially as described in the synthesis of 2-(4-methoxy-2-methyl-phenyl)-benzo[b]thiophene-5-carboxylic acid ethyl ester, utilizing benzo[b]thiophene-7-carboxylic acid methyl ester. 1H NMR (CDCl3): δ 8.08 (dd, 1H, J=7.55 Hz, 1.1 Hz), 7.97 (dd, 1H, J=7.8 Hz, 1.1 Hz), 7.48-7.42 (m, 2H), 6.87-6.79 (m, 2H), 4.03 (s, 3H), 3.85 (s, 3H), 2.48 (s, 3H).
