To a solution of Ethyl 3-((4-(2-fluorobenzyloxy)phenyl)-methylthio)propionate (Step C, 0.122 g, 0.35 mmol) in ethanol (5 ml) was added 1N NaOH (0.5 ml) at room temperature. The reaction mixture was stirred for 3 hours, acidified with 1M HCl and concentrated in vacuo to give white solid which was purified by flash chromatography on silica gel column (chloroform:methanol, 92.5:7.5 spiked with acetic acid) to provide the title compound as a white solid.
