4.6 g of 2-Ethoxy-3-[1-(2-trifluoromethyl-phenyl)-cyclobutyl]-acrylic acid was stirred in 100 ml of 1M sulfuric acid and 15 ml of concentrated acetic acid overnight at 100° C. Water was added, the mixture extracted with ethyl acetate, and the ethyl acetate solution was separated, dried and concentrated by evaporation in a vacuum. 4.1 g of the product was obtained as a brown oil.
