Procedure
1.045 g of (R)-3-(1-methoxycarbonyl-1-methyl-ethyl)-piperidine-1-carboxylic acid tert-butyl ester is taken up in 5 ml of methanol and the mixture is admixed with 5 ml of 3M NaOH. The mixture is then stirred at 60° C. for 20 hours. The methanol is removed in vacuo and the aqueous residue acidified with 2M HCl to pH 2-3. The mixture is extracted with ethyl acetate (3×) and the combined extracts are washed with brine, dried over sodium sulphate and concentrated by evaporation. The title compound is obtained as a colourless oil which can be used without further purification.
