In a manner similar to that of Example 2a, by reaction of 380 mg (9.5 mmol) of sodium hydroxide with 490 mg (0.95 mmol) of ethyl 4′-(3-ethylaminopropoxy)-3′-(5,5,8,8-tetramethyl-5,6,7,8-tetrahydronaphth-2-yl)biphenyl-4-carboxylate (Example 15a) in 30 ml of tetrahydrofuran. 395 mg of 4′-(3-ethylaminopropoxy)-3′-(5,5,8,8-tetramethyl-5,6,7,8-tetrahydronaphth-2-yl)biphenyl-4-carboxylic acid are obtained in the form of a white solid (m.p.=233° C., yield=85%).
