Procedure

A mixture of benzothiazol-2-ylamine (1.0 g, 6.6 mmol) and bromoacetic acid ethyl ester (0.86 mL, 7.9 mmol) in 30 mL of acetone was heated at 50° C. for 6 hours. The mixture was cooled to ambient temperature and the solid was triturated with ethanol, collected by filtration, and dried under vacuum to provide 1.8 g (86%) of the title compound. 1H NMR (DMSO-d6, 300 MHz) δ ppm 1.25 (t, J=7.1 Hz, 3 H), 4.22 (q, J=7.1 Hz, 2 H), 5.28 (s, 2 H), 7.44 (td, J=7.6, 1.0 Hz, 1 H), 7.55 (td, J=7.8, 1.4 Hz, 1 H), 7.68 (d, J=7.8 Hz, 1 H), 8.01 (dd, J=8.1, 1.0 Hz, 1 H), 10 3 (s, 1H); MS (DCI/NH3) m/z 237 (M+H)+.
