In 1 ml of ethanol was dissolved 0.08 g of methoxymethyl 6-(4-dimethylaminophenyl)-1-(4-methoxymethyloxyphenyl)-4-oxo-1,4-dihydronicotinate at room temperature, and 1 ml of a 10% by weight aqueous sodium carbonate solution was added to the resulting solution. The resulting mixture was subjected to reaction at the same temperature for 1 hour. After completion of the reaction, the reaction mixture was adjusted to a pH of 6.0 with acetic acid, and the precipitated crystals were collected by filtration, washed with 5 ml of water, and dried to obtain 0.06 g of 6-(4-dimethylaminophenyl)-1-(4-methoxymethyloxyphenyl)-4-oxo-1,4-dihydronicotinic acid having a melting point of 150°-152° C.
