Reaction Steps

p-Nitrobenzene sulfonyl chloride (22.1 g, 0.1 mode) in methylenechloride (200 ml) was added dropwise to N,N-diethylethylene diamine (11.6 g, 0.1 mole) and triethylamine (10.1 g, 0.1 mole) in methylene chloride. The reaction was stirred two days, washed with water, then brime and the solvent removed. The solid residue was dissolved in diethyl ether, filtered through Supercel®, hexane added and N-[2-(diethylamino)ethly]-N-(1-methylethyl)-4-nitrobenzene sulfonamide obtained by stirring and chilling (18.54 g) m.r. 56°-57° C.
