An ice cold solution of ethyl 2-isopropyl-5-oxo-1-imidazolidineacetate (3.8 g) in methanol (100 ml) was saturated with gaseous ammonia. The solution was stirred at room temperature overnight and the solvent was removed under reduced pressure yielding 2-isopropyl-5-oxo-1-imidazolidineacetamide as viscous oil (Rf 0.33; ethyl acetate/methanol 6:4, silica gel plates). Sulphate monohydrate salt, m.p. 64° C., resolidifing and final decomposition at 114°-118° C.
