15 g of 2,2,6,6-tetramethyl-4-piperidyl furan-2-carboxylate, 150 ml of methanol and 3 g of Raney nickel are introduced into a 0.3 l hydrogenation autoclave, and hydrogenation is carried out at 100° C. and under 100 bar until the pressure remains constant, which takes about 6 hours. The Raney nickel is filtered off, the filtrate is evaporated down and the residue is distilled under reduced pressure to give 11.5 g of a colorless oil of boiling point 118°-122° C./1.3 mbar.
